I used to be a big believer in the Red Brand 12 gauge wire but have converted to the 15.5 high tensile. If I'm not mistaken, the 15.5 is high tensile and the 12.5 is standard tensile. Not to hijack thread but this is new to me. What is a rough idea a guy should expect to spend to have 5 strand barbed put up per foot. I always thought 4pt was for cross fences where you had cows on both sides? Several years ago dad and I had it out over 4pt barb wire.I told him I'd he wanted it put up he could do it without me.he got 2pt after that. This may or may not apply to your situation. My opinions come the from personal experience of working on my own 5 wire sheep fence which is both 2 pt and 4pt.Īnother thing to consider is in my experience the snow load capability of 4 pt is much less than that of 2 pt wire. I absolutely despise working with 4 pt wire. While there are other good brands of wire, you don't really know which ones are until you've already put the fence up and lived with the wire for a few years. I much prefer a good 2 pt barb wire, and IMO Red Brand is hands down the best. just looking at the price differences, leaning more towards the 12.5 2 pt also will the 4 pt matter much with cows not wanting to mess with it? this will be going 5 wires and be for co.w/calf. what is your guys opinion on the 12.5 vs 15.5 gauge? i heard once they may last the same.
